Morning lovelies :-)
Right then, i've just been looking in the archives for some of our homemade threads but im struggling to find the best ones so im going to start a new one for us if thats ok!
Doesnt have to be a recipe, could be a handy tip!
So i'll start the ball rolling......
Soap, im always trying to get peeps to make their own soap! Yes you have to splash out on a couple of thermometers, but thats about £20 and how much do you pay for a nice bar of handmade soap in the shops?
Here is a picture of the soap I made last weekend. www.boomspeed.com/cooip/soaps.JPG
Its drying out at the moment so is just stacked up any old how to let air get to it.
I know its not cut nicely, and its not neat or displayed nice. But its just for my family and its really lovely to use! I just wanted to show you how nice and natural soap can be without using anything other than oils and foodstuff.
The orange one is carrot (from my own garden!!) and shea butter. The white one is a mix of shea and cocoa (i love this on my face) The brown one is organic honey and crushed cinnamon, it has a gorgeous honey smell! And the pink one is aloe vera!! I liquidised four leaves from one of my plants and made it from that, didnt expect it to go pink though lol!!!
I also add oils like coconut and olive oil to the soaps, also a little castor oil is nice as it makes for a lovely fluffy lather.
When oils react with the acid to produce soap, the by product is glycerine, which is totally lovely for your skin. Homemade soap is full of it. A lot of the soap manufacturers skim off the glycerine and sell it to cosmetic houses
If anyone fancies having a go then i'll pop a basic recipe up, but I do suggest a bit of reading first and theres plenty of sites to give advice. Its so worth it though, it really is my top ever homemade product! In fact my family ring me up to tell me they are running low and to get my act together and make more lol!
